This is a simple and classic recipe for guacamole. The key to great guacamole is using ripe avocados and fresh ingredients.

Ingredients

  • Avocados: 2-3 ripe avocados
  • Lime: 1 lime, juiced
  • Onion: 1/4 cup, finely chopped
  • Cilantro: 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Jalapeño or Green Chili: 1/2, finely diced (optional, for heat)
  • Salt: 1/2 teaspoon, or to taste
  • Black Pepper: To taste

Directions

  1. Prepare the Avocado: Cut the avocados in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a medium-sized bowl.
  2. Mash: Using a fork or a potato masher, gently mash the avocado to your desired consistency. You can leave it slightly chunky or mash it until it's smoother.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Add the lime juice, chopped onion, chopped cilantro, diced jalapeño (if using), salt, and black pepper to the bowl.
  4. Mix: Gently stir all the ingredients together until they are just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Serve: Taste and adjust for salt and pepper if needed. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, vegetable sticks, or as a side with your favorite meal.
